The visiting Mustangs were the winners in the JV affair, 46-20. Mark Carpenter | People’s Defender After opening their 2015-16 campaign with a win over Lucasville Valley, new head coach Michael Walls’ first win as a JV coach, the JV Manchester Greyhounds returned to their home floor on Friday, Dec. 4 to face the Lynchburg Clay Mustangs. Turnovers turned out to haunt the Hounds on Friday night and the Mustangs capitalized with a big second half to roll to a 46-21 road win.The Hounds got first quarter buckets from Jacob Calvert and Trent Dryden, plus a pair of Gage Lucas free throws and the two sides ended the first seven minutes deadlocked at 6 apiece. The Manchester offense went stale in quarter number two, only mustering three points against the full and half court pressure defense of the Mustangs. Plagued by the turnover bug (34 for the game), the Hounds managed just a Lucas basket and found themselves trailing at halftime, 16-8.The seven minutes after the intermission didn’t go well either for the home side as the Mustangs caught fire and racked up 20 points, limiting the Hounds to just 8 and taking a 36-16 lead into the final period. The Hounds got a three-point goal from Dustin Unger in the final quarter, but their offensive woes continued, as they were outscored 10-5, giving the visiting Mustangs the win by a final count of 46-21.In the victory, the Mustangs, who are a junior-dominated squad, were led in scoring by Brian Lampkin’s 10 points, followed by Austin Hilt with 9, Noble Walker with 8, and 6’6” AJ Stroop with 6.The Greyhounds were paced by 8 points from Dustin Unger, including a pair of three-point goals.
